Discord FAQ
Discord quick answers
Account link, server join, bot permissions, and mapped roles are separate checks.Use these answers when a member expected a Discord role, or when a creator is setting up role automation for a server.
How does the integration work?
When a creator connects a Discord server to PayBru and maps a Discord role to a tier, PayBru grants that mapped role to a member's linked Discord account when they qualify. PayBru removes the role when that membership access ends.
Most role changes apply quickly. PayBru also checks roles on a regular cadence in case Discord was slow or a member joined the server after subscribing.
What is the difference between linking Discord and connecting a server?
A member links their personal Discord account in their PayBru profile. This identifies who should receive the role.
A creator adds the PayBru bot to their Discord server from Settings > Integrations. This gives PayBru a place to apply mapped roles.
Members usually need to do the first. Creators need to do the second.
How do I connect my Discord account?
- Sign in to PayBru.
- Go to Resources > My Profile > Security > Connected Accounts.
- Select Connect next to Discord.
- Approve the prompts.
You also need to join the creator's Discord server before any server role can apply.
How do creators connect their Discord server?
Creators connect a server from Settings > Integrations in the Manage Portal:
- Link a Discord account that can manage the server.
- Invite the PayBru bot to the Discord server.
- Refresh PayBru if needed.
- Select the server where the bot is active.
- Map roles in the tier wizard.
See Connecting Discord.
Why did I not get my role?
Walk through this checklist:
- Your PayBru membership is Active.
- You linked Discord under Resources > My Profile > Security > Connected Accounts.
- You joined the creator's Discord server with that linked Discord account.
- The tier has a mapped Discord role on the creator's side.
- The PayBru bot has permission to manage roles and sits above that role in Server Settings > Roles.
If all five are true and the role still has not applied, the creator can refresh Discord from Settings > Integrations in the Manage Portal.
What do the Discord status labels mean?
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connected | The member linked Discord, joined the creator's server, and the mapped role is in sync. |
| Not linked | The member still needs to connect Discord to their PayBru profile. |
| Not in server | The member linked Discord but has not joined the creator's Discord server. |
| Permission error | The PayBru bot cannot manage the mapped role until permissions or role hierarchy are fixed. |
What happens when I cancel?
You stay in the server, but your tier-linked Discord role is removed when membership access ends. If you cancel a paid membership, access usually continues until the paid period finishes. If a renewal fails, the role stays during the 6-day grace period and is removed if payment is not recovered.
Can different tiers have different roles?
Yes. Creators map Discord roles per tier. If a creator connects more than one Discord server, each connected server can have its own mapped role for that tier.
Can I receive roles in multiple creators' Discord servers?
Yes. Each creator's server is independent. Connecting Discord once on your PayBru profile is enough for every PayBru community you join that uses Discord, but you still need to join each creator's Discord server.
Do I need admin access?
Members do not need admin access. They only need a normal Discord account.
Creators need server owner or admin access to authorize the PayBru bot. The bot then needs role-management permissions and the correct role hierarchy.
Is the bot safe?
The bot is used for server automation such as mapped roles, member checks, and optional moderation-related Discord features. It does not need to read your DMs and does not DM members on its own.
Can free members get a role?
Yes. Free tiers can be mapped to Discord roles too.
What if I switch Discord accounts?
Connect the new account under Resources > My Profile > Security > Connected Accounts. You will then need to join the creator's server with the new Discord account for the role to apply.
How do I join the official PayBru community on Discord?
Use the official invite: https://discord.gg/P4U7HT5ZSj.
