General FAQ
Common questions about PayBru and how the platform works.
What is PayBru?
PayBru is a South African creator platform that allows creators to earn income from their audience through multiple channels - memberships, community posts, events, a digital store, crowdfunding campaigns, and tips (Brus). Creators build communities with tiered memberships, publish content, host events, sell products, and receive tips, while members subscribe to support the creators they love.
Who can use PayBru?
PayBru is available to creators and members in South Africa. Creators must be 18 or older to receive payouts. Members must meet the minimum age requirements for online transactions in their region.
Is PayBru free to use?
Signing up for PayBru is free for both creators and members. PayBru charges a 5% platform fee on transactions (reducible to 2.5% through the referral programme). There is also a Paystack gateway fee of 2.9% + R1 per transaction. Members only pay the prices set by the creator - no additional fees are charged to members.
How is PayBru different from other creator platforms?
PayBru is built specifically for the South African market. It offers a complete suite of creator tools - memberships, posts, events, a digital store, crowdfunding, and a tipping system (Brus) - all with ZAR billing through Paystack. It supports local payment methods, pays out to South African bank accounts, integrates with Discord for role automation, and operates in compliance with South African regulations including POPIA.
What features does PayBru offer?
PayBru includes:
- Memberships with tiered pricing and access levels
- Community posts: blog posts, images, videos, audio, and polls (Public, Members-Only, or Specific Tier)
- Events: virtual (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Discord) and physical, with RSVP and capacity management

Is my personal information safe?
Yes. PayBru follows data protection best practices and complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Payment details are handled by Paystack, a PCI-compliant payment processor, and are never stored on PayBru servers. See Platform Safety Basics for more details.
Can I use PayBru if I'm outside South Africa?
Members from outside South Africa can support creators, subject to their payment method being accepted. All transactions are processed in ZAR. Creator payouts are currently limited to South African bank accounts.
