Common Payout Questions
Answers to the most frequently asked questions about receiving payouts on PayBru.
Is there a minimum payout amount?
No. PayBru has no minimum payout threshold. You can request a payout with any positive available balance.
What fees does PayBru charge?
PayBru applies the following fees to every transaction (subscriptions, tips, store purchases, and campaign backings):
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Platform fee | 5% |
| Gateway fee (Paystack) | 2.9% + R1.00 per transaction |
| VAT | 0% (not currently applied) |
Example: A R100 payment from a member results in:
- R5.00 platform fee + R2.90 gateway percentage + R1.00 flat fee = R91.10 net to you
Referral program: Refer 10 new signups and your platform fee drops to 2.5% for 6 months.
How do I add or update my bank details?
Go to Settings > Payout Settings in your creator dashboard. Enter your bank name, account holder name, account number, and branch code. Changes take effect on your next payout request.
Always double-check your bank details before saving. Incorrect details will cause your payout to fail.
What happens if my payout fails?
If a payout fails (usually due to incorrect bank details), the funds are returned to your PayBru available balance. You will receive a notification via in-app, email, and Discord explaining the failure. A PayBru admin can retry the failed payout once you've corrected your bank details - contact support to request this.
What is the 7-day hold period?
All transactions are held for 7 days before the earnings become available for payout. This hold exists to protect against chargebacks and payment reversals. After 7 days, the net earnings from that transaction automatically move from your "Pending" balance to your "Available" balance.
Why can't I request a payout?
There are a few reasons you might not be able to request a payout:
- KYC not approved: Your community must have "Approved" KYC status. Complete the verification process first.
- No available balance: Your earnings may still be within the 7-day hold period.
- Existing pending payout: Only one pending payout per community is allowed at a time. Wait for your current payout to finish before requesting another.
How long does it take to receive my payout?
After you request a payout, the timeline is:
- Operations review - A support ticket is created automatically. The PayBru operations team must approve it (typically same or next business day).
- Processing - A background worker picks up approved payouts every 5 minutes and initiates the transfer via Paystack.
- Bank delivery - Funds arrive in your South African bank account within 1-3 business days.
Can I receive payouts to a bank outside South Africa?
PayBru currently supports payouts to South African bank accounts only via Paystack. International payout options may be introduced in future updates.
Do I need to handle my own taxes?
Yes. As a creator earning income through PayBru, you are responsible for your own tax obligations. PayBru does not withhold taxes on your behalf. VAT is currently set at 0% on the platform.
PayBru provides earnings export tools to help you compile your income records. We recommend consulting a tax professional familiar with South African tax law to understand your obligations, including income tax and VAT registration thresholds.
How do I know when my payout status changes?
PayBru sends notifications for all payout events through three channels:
- In-app notifications
- Discord
Payout statuses are: Pending (awaiting approval), Processing (transfer in progress), Success (funds sent), Failed (transfer unsuccessful), or Canceled.
Who do I contact if I have a payout issue?
If you experience a payout problem, reach out to PayBru support through the Help section in your dashboard. Include your community name and a description of the issue so the team can investigate promptly. For failed payouts, an admin can retry the transfer on your behalf once the issue is resolved.
