Billing FAQs
Quick answers to frequently asked billing questions on PayBru.
General
When will I be charged?
You are charged immediately when you first subscribe. After that, your payment recurs monthly on the same day each month. The auto-renewal system checks for due memberships every hour.
Can I subscribe for longer than one month?
Yes. Depending on the creator's tier configuration, you can subscribe for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. Multi-month subscriptions are still billed monthly via Paystack, but you may receive a discount for committing to a longer duration.
What currency will I be charged in?
All charges are in South African Rand (ZAR). There are no currency conversions or international transaction fees.
What payment methods are accepted?
PayBru accepts the following payment methods, all processed through Paystack:
- Card payments: Visa or Mastercard (debit or credit)
- Bank transfer / EFT: direct bank payment
- Mobile money: supported mobile money options
What fees are charged?
PayBru charges a 5% platform fee on all transactions. Additionally, Paystack charges a 2.9% + R1.00 gateway fee per transaction. VAT is currently 0%.
Subscriptions
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Account Settings > Memberships, find the subscription you want to cancel, and select Cancel. Your membership status changes to Canceled, and your access continues until the end of your current billing period. After that, your status moves to Ended.
Can I pause my subscription instead of cancelling?
PayBru does not currently offer a pause feature. If you cancel, you can resubscribe at any time to the same or a different tier.
What happens if I upgrade my tier mid-cycle?
You gain immediate access to the higher tier's content. Your billing amount adjusts to the new tier's price from the next billing date.
What happens if I downgrade?
You keep access to your current tier until the end of the billing cycle. The lower tier's price applies from the next billing date.
Are there free tiers?
Yes. Some creators offer free membership tiers. Free memberships auto-renew indefinitely and require no payment.
Payments
My payment failed. What do I do?
Update your payment method in Account Settings > Billing and retry the payment manually. PayBru does not automatically retry failed payments - you must take action yourself within the 3-day grace period to avoid losing access. See Failed Payments and Access Changes for more detail.
Will I lose access immediately if a payment fails?
No. PayBru provides a 3-day grace period during which your membership status is PastDue and you retain full access. However, there are no automatic retries - you must update your payment method and retry manually within those 3 days.
What happens after the grace period?
If payment is not resolved within 3 days, your membership status changes to Ended, access to gated content is revoked, and Discord roles are removed.
My payment is stuck as pending. What should I do?
Pending transactions expire after 30 minutes. If your payment hasn't completed after 30 minutes, start a new checkout. If your membership still shows as inactive after completing payment, contact PayBru support with your payment confirmation.
Can I gift a membership to someone?
Yes. PayBru supports gift memberships. You can purchase a membership (1 to 12 months) for someone else, with the option to gift anonymously as an "Anonymous Bru". The recipient has a 30-day acceptance window to claim the gift. If the gift is declined or not accepted within 30 days, the purchase is automatically refunded.
Invoices
Where can I find my invoices?
Invoices are available in Account Settings > Billing. See Downloading Billing Documents for step-by-step instructions.
Do invoices include VAT?
VAT is currently set at 0% on PayBru transactions. If this changes in the future, VAT will appear as a separate line item on your invoice. See Understanding Charges for details.
