Setting Up Memberships
Memberships are the core of your PayBru creator page. Each tier defines what members get and what they pay.
Creating a Tier
- Go to your Creator Dashboard and select Memberships.
- Click Add Tier.
- Fill in the details:
- Tier name - keep it clear and recognisable (e.g. "Supporter", "VIP", "Inner Circle").
- Price (ZAR) - the monthly amount members will be billed via Paystack.
- Description - a short summary of what's included.
- Subscription durations - choose which duration options to offer (1, 3, 6, or 12 months).
- Free tier - toggle this on to create a free tier that requires no payment and auto-renews indefinitely.
- Save the tier.
Start with 2-3 tiers. Too many options can overwhelm potential members. You can always add more later. Consider offering a free tier to build your community base.
Setting Your Price
All pricing on PayBru is in South African Rand (ZAR). Consider:
- Your audience's budget: price tiers your community can realistically afford.
- Value delivered: higher tiers should offer meaningfully more.
- Common price points: R49, R99, R199, and R499 are popular starting points.
- Fee impact: PayBru deducts a 5% platform fee and Paystack charges 2.9% + R1.00 per transaction. Factor this into your pricing.
Subscription Durations and Discounts
For each paid tier, you can configure which subscription durations are available and offer discounts for longer commitments:
| Duration | Discount (configurable per tier) |
|---|---|
| 1 month | Standard price |
| 3 months | e.g. 5% off monthly price |
| 6 months | e.g. 10% off monthly price |
| 12 months | e.g. 15% off monthly price |
Discount percentages are fully customisable per tier. Setting attractive multi-month discounts encourages members to commit for longer, reducing churn and providing more predictable revenue.
Multi-month subscriptions are still billed monthly via Paystack, but the discounted rate is locked in for the full duration.
Promotional Pricing
You can run time-limited promotions on any tier:
- Set a promotional/special price that is lower than the standard price.
- The promotional price is shown to members during the active promotion period.
- Once the promotion ends, new subscribers pay the standard price.
Promotions are a great way to attract new members during launches, events, or seasonal campaigns.
Configuring Benefits
For each tier, list the specific benefits members receive:
- Access to private Discord channels or roles
- Exclusive content or resources
- Early access to drops, events, or announcements
- Direct messaging or community interaction
- Shoutouts, credits, or other recognition
Be specific. "Access to exclusive content" is vague - "Weekly behind-the-scenes video + private Q&A channel" tells members exactly what they're paying for.
Linking to Discord Roles
PayBru can automatically assign Discord roles to paying members. To set this up:
- Connect your Discord server - go to Settings > Discord Integration and authorise the PayBru bot.
- Map tiers to roles - for each membership tier, select the corresponding Discord role.
- Ensure role hierarchy - the PayBru bot's role must sit above the roles it manages in your Discord server settings.
Role changes happen automatically when a member subscribes, renews, or cancels. You don't need to manage roles manually.
Editing and Removing Tiers
- Edit a tier: update the name, description, or benefits at any time. Price changes only apply to new subscribers.
- Archive a tier: hide it from new sign-ups while keeping existing members active.
- Delete a tier: only possible if no active members are subscribed.
If you want to change pricing for existing members, create a new tier at the updated price and migrate members by communicating the change in advance.
